Barrel Productions Kicks Off 3rd Year!
In 1998
businessmen Chuck Dun and Phil Goostree set out to produce a better barrel series
and formed the D&G Barrel Productions Tour. Consisting that first year of
seven events, the tour has steadily grown in both size, popularity and prize
money to be ranked in the top 20 of all barrel events in the country (Equistat).
Events are run over 3 days with one race run each day and divided into divisions
1D, 2D, 3D and 4D for placings and awards.
The top 10 money earners in each division are presented year end awards at the
Witchita Falls event held over Thanksgiving weekend.
The tour grew to eight events in 1999, averaging 940 entries per event on the
tour and distributing over $270,000 in cash and $75,000 in awards.
The 2000 tour has grown to nine events and has increased prize money by $45,000.
Year-end winners in each division will win a years use of a three-horse gooseneck
trailer from 4 Star Trailers and a Gist buckle, along with other awards. Top
prize for the Reserve Champion will be a Circle Y saddle.
Opening weekend of the Bar None 2000 Tour was March 3-5 in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Entries were up 8% this year with a total of 1069 entries and $43,368 distributed
in prize money.
Race 1 had 366 entries and a total payout of $11,248. Janet Stover of Jacksonville,
Texas and Gotewin Bo posted the fastest time of the three days, stopping the
timers in 15.652 for the win.
Saturdays Race 2 posted the highest number of entries with 414 horses running
the pattern and a total payout of $18,560. Peyton Warner, who was the recipient
of a horse trailer from the99 D&G Tour, kicked off 2000 with a win, clocking
in at 15.709 and receiving a check for $1,196.24 for her effort.
The final race of the weekend had 289 entries and awarded $13,560 in prize money.
Kinta, Oklahoma resident, Mary Beth Ogle and Cheyennes Bullet stopped the timers
in 15.666 to take the 1D win.
Winners of each division in each race received a Gist Buckle and an outfit from
Bar None in addition to their cash prizes. Other surprise awards were given
to exhibitors. Watches from D&G were given to the first person in each race
and an outfit from Bar None was awarded to the person placing one out of the
money in each race.
