D&G Bar None 2000 Tour
San Antonio Pays Out $43,512.06
The
third stop on the D&G Bar None 2000 Tour at the San Antonio Rose Palace
again proved to be one of the most popular barrel; racing events of the
Memorial Day weekend. A total of 1066 entries turned out to compete at the
equine facility that country singer and true Texas cowboy George Strait owns.
Although George didn’t stop by and sing a few songs, he did send a John Deere
tractor from his roping arena. Calvin Kroes had the privileged of sitting in
the same tractor seat as “King George”.
Being
the Memorial Day holiday the 1st race was run on Sat. night starting at 5:00pm
with 344 entries. Sarina Thornton set the pace with a run of 15.801 and
collected $$760.45 for her effort. As has become the standard at all D&G
Barrel Production events the arena conditions were excellent and Jack Brooks at
the back gate kept the pace at 50 horses an hour. A large thunder storm greeted
those contestants that ran later, cooling things down and adding a little
excitement to the event. Results and checks were ready within 15 minutes of the
last horse running through the gate.
Race
2 on Sunday proved to be the largest of the event, with 408 entries. Starting
at 10am, with the opening ceremony, Crystal Trent carrying the American Flag as
at all D&G events. The competition was fast and furious with Amanda
Rutledge setting the pace for the field with a 15.422 for the fastest time of
the weekend No thunder storms to
provide a light show or excitement. We did have a Kubota tractor that needed a
tire ferrier, after repairing the thrown “shoe” it was back hard at work.
Third
and final race started at 9:am, with 314 entries. Amanda Rutledge again out
paced the field with a 15.731 and took home $1,028.16 and the 1D Gist buckle.

Next
stop will be Topeka, KS June 23, 24 and 25 at the Kansas Expo Centre in Topeka.
Entries close on June 2. We are looking for this to be another great turn out
and look forward to seeing ya’ll there.
