CO-10 Results from May 19 in Delta, May 20 in Eagle

Pam Isaman in classic form at Horse Country NBHA
The
NBHA CO-10 reigning Senior 1D Champion apparently
isn't satisfied with just being the Senior Champion, she had the
2007 Open Championship on her mind as well on Sat., May 19, 2007.
District 10 held it's fourth race of the season at the Horse
Country Arena in Delta and Pam Isaman ran away with the Open 1D
win and the Senior 1D win. Riding the black Paint mare Heidi's
Classic, Isaman cleaned house in Delta. Competing for prize
money and points against 71 other competitors Isaman took the top
spot. A time of 17.697 on a standard pattern is a decent time by
any barrel racer's account but in the Horse Country Arena on
Saturday it proved to be admirable. Western Colorado heat and
dry ground conditions made for somewhat less than ideal
conditions but Isaman stepped up to the task and captured the win
against all odds.
Just
a few miles from home Nancy Deans rode the flashy gray
gelding Stalking to the Open 2D win. Deans, a race producer in
her own right took advantage of the NBHA coming to town and
collected a big paycheck for a few seconds worth of fun.
National
High School Finals Rodeo Qualifier and Olathe, CO
cowgirl Amber Greenhalgh enjoyed the Colorado State High School
Rodeo Association's hiatus and used the time productively to try
and work through some issues with various barrel horses and
figure out her next move toward another Nationals Qualification.
Greenhalgh rode the bay mare, Suze, to a smooth Open 3D win.
She jockeyed two other mounts as well.
Another
Olathe cowgirl DeeDee Powell grabbed the Open 4D win.
Powell, a non member, gave up her right to points in the
association's year end standings. First place points were
awarded to Andrea Gorbett of Grand Junction on her Dash Ta Fame
gelding, Dash of Fame.
Rylie
Gardner and Shanna Wilgus turned in exactly the same times
to split the Youth 1D win. Gardner, an NBHA Colorado State Youth
1D Champion and Wilgus an NBHA CO-10 Youth 3D Champion went head
to head and split the win and the first place points.
Rifle's
Taylor Gore took the Youth 3D win aboard the sorrel and
white Paint mare called "Buggy." Gore would also collect
Open 4D
points for her efforts.
Little
Hayden Gardner, 6, of Parachute was the Youth 4D winner.
Aboard Concho Brillo Gardner turned in a flawless performance and
an excellent display of pint sized horsemanship for the win.
Linda
Tibbits and Sail Blue Money were the Senior 2D winners of
the day. The smooth running gray gelding would also carry
Tibbits to a paycheck in the Open 2D.
Olathe,
CO Senior runner Penny Kysar and the beautiful palomino
gelding Ditto won the Senior 3D. They would narrowly miss out on
Open 3D points as well.
Next
NBHA CO-10 barrel race will be Sat., June 16 at the Rio
Blanco County Fairgrounds in Meeker, CO. For more information on
upcoming races, point standings, photos see the website at

Sammi Bessert soars to Open 1D win in Eagle, CO
EAGLE,
CO - The Eagle County Fairgrounds are one of the most
inviting facilities on Colorado's Western Slope. Situated on the
banks of the Eagle River just east of the picturesque Glenwood
Canyon Eagle is a small burg on the edge of Colorado's ski
country. Home of the Eagle County Fairgrounds Eagle isn't
typically known for it's fantastic ground conditions or big time
barrel racers. The barrel racers who converged on Eagle on Sun.,
May 20 begged to differ on both those respects.
Very
good ground conditions saw top WPRA and CPRA rodeo horses
rise to the challenge with WPRA Divisional Tour Qualifier Sammi
Bessert and the Paint mare Surely Shes a Star rising to the top.
Bessert's nice time of 17.401 was good enough for the Open 1D
and Fundraiser 1D wins. Another WPRA competitor and Mountain
States Circuit Finalist Margie Ward was hot on Bessert's heels
for the Open 1D second place check.
In
the Open 2D Arizona transplant Tammy Campbell and Mojo Rocket
topped the leader board.
Newly
wed Kristy Roden cashed in her chips for the Open 3D win
aboard the sorrel AQHA mare Sheza Royal Candy. Roden took the
summer of 2006 off but has come back in 2007 with a vengeance and
is making a strong bid for the Open 3D saddle.
Wyoming
college student Sydney Horwitz took advantage of her
first few weeks of summer vacation to spend time in the arena.
Horwitz would take home a first place check in the Open 4D.
Marley
Hammer and the amazing buckskin gelding Andy Jones would
take the Youth 1D win. Hammer would also pick up a paycheck in
the Youth 3D aboard Domino. Hammer also demonstrated how fast
she is on her own two feet as well, leading little sister,
Miranda through the pattern in the PeeWee competition.
Rifle's
Taylor Gore was the Youth 4D winner. Gore has stepped on
a new mount this season and is rapidly figuring things out with
her new equine partner. A Youth 3D win in Delta on Saturday and
a 4D win on Sunday had Gore counting her winnings in fine fashion.
In
Senior competition Pam Isaman defended her Senior 1D title
once again and took the Senior 1D win. Isaman would also collect
money in the Open 1D with a nice run of 17.616. Her carryover
time would set the pace for the rest of the 50+ crowd.
Sharon
Colunga and Six Pack were the winning duo in the Senior
2D. With 11 Senior runners competing on Sunday competition was
fierce. Entry numbers dictated the payment of two places in each
division, however, Colunga and Isaman were fast enough to be the
only runners in the first and second divisions and collected all
the money for first and second place in the top two divisions.
Back
at the pay window for the second day in a row were Linda
Tibbits and her gray gelding Sail Blue Money.
